Over a year has passed since
Over a year
has passed since
We lay on
autumn spread
Beneath our
backs hugging
The fallen
fading leaves.
A yesterday
from which
I can't seem
to esacape
Recurs
innocuously, in today's
Transience surreptitiously,
When you and
I secluded
Ourselves
under casuarinas
That miserly
let sunlight
Waltz on our
hesitant hands,
A stillness
engulfed the breeze
Prodding us
towards uncertainty
We yearned
for though
Dared not
venture into.
I hear its echoes
even now,
The quiet
that lingered in between
The space which
kept my fingers
From becoming
one with yours.
I see the
cursory glances
Which we
both are guilty of
Flash in the
recesses of
An
unsettling remembrance
And I know
that the things I felt
Weren't
confined to me alone
For they whisper
in my ears
Of all that
could have been.
I close my
eyes and take comfort
In this
regret that somehow warms
Thawing the
loneliness within me,
With this hurt that harbours no harm.
As I quietly
now look at you
In the
classroom or in the corridor,
Your eyes
dissemble to be oblivious
Of what
persists now as before.
That day in
paradise today is past
And I sigh
as much as I wince
Every time
you pretend you're unaware that
Over a year
has passed since.
